General

  • Congratulations to Molly Hurley and Brooke Taliani for their outstanding performance in Public Service Announcement (PSA) at FBLA, earning them a well-deserved 4th place in Pennsylvania. Their achievement has earned them the opportunity to compete against the winners from each state at the National Leadership Conference (NLC) in Orlando in June.

     

  • Congratulations to Shane Parsons, Owen Scheuring, and Casey Sprinkle, who placed first in The Stock Market Game, beating 500 other teams in Western Pennsylvania!  Read the full Tribune-Review article here: Stock Market Winners!
  • Good luck to the six SHS Students who qualified for the Academic Games National Tournament in Atlanta, GA, and will be competing against students from across the country through Tuesday, April 23:  Caleb Fancella, Emir Halimic, Tyler Harpine, Aleah Mansour, Rodrigo Pacheco-Mendez, and Jonathan Yungwirth. 
  • Please join our Fine & Performing Arts Department for a night of art and music on Wednesday, May 1.  The Art Show begins at 6:00 PM, and artwork will be displayed in the C-wing Hallway and the Art Gallery.  The Band and Choir Concert will begin at 7:00 PM in the Auditorium.  All events are free and open to the public.  We hope you will come and support the hard work of these talented students!  
  • Allegheny Valley School District will celebrate the school Kennywood Picnic on Wednesday, June 19, 2024.  Please use the attached instructions to secure discounted tickets for that date.  Purchase by April 30 for the best price! Kennywood Tickets
  • 2024-2025 Scheduling opens this week.  If you have questions about how to enter course requests, please schedule an appointment with your Guidance Counselor.  Course request forms are due to your homeroom teacher  TODAY, APRIL 19,2024.
  • Are you in grades 7-9 and enjoy the game of CHESS?  Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 11, for an Allegheny Valley Chess Event in the SHS cafeteria.  This is for players of all ability levels.  We will use a winners-play-winners format.  You do not need to have a chess set to participate, but if you have one, please bring it with you.  We are also collecting food items for the Food Bank.  You can ask your Social Studies teacher or email Ms. Mellon for the registration link
  • On April 22nd, registration for the free Air Force Association Cyber Camp at the main campus of the University of Pittsburgh opens.  This is a nationally famous five day camp open  to students in 8th grade through 12th grade. This camp fills quickly because of the digital nature of all future careers.  Email Ms. Mellon now so you will have the link that you need to be a part of this wonderful opportunity.

Student Services

Seniors - If you are planning to attend CCAC Fall 2024, please attend an IMPORTANT meeting Wednesday, April 24, at 11:00 AM, in the Rachel Carson Room.  The meeting will cover the following topics:  Job Corps, Placement Testing, Admission Requirements, Welcome Center Meeting, Scheduling Classes, and Payment for Courses.  Please let Mrs. Dyer know if you have any questions.

7th & 8th Grade Students - The PSSA schedule is as follows:

Activities

  • Color Guard:  Spring Color Guard practices will take place from 6-8 pm every Monday through May 20 in the MPR.  
  • Activity Bus: The Activity Bus runs Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and picks up from the High School at 3:30 PM.  
  • We are looking for additional students to help with the creation of this year's SHS yearbook. If you are interested in participating please leave your name with Ms. Noel.  To order a 2023-2024 Yearbook (this school year), please use this link: Yearbook.  The 2023-24 Yearbooks will not be delivered until the beginning of next school year.

Athletics

Boys Basketball Open Gyms for boys in grades 8-11 will begin on Tuesday, April 23, and will run every Tuesday and Thursday starting at 6:00 PM.
