On May 19, 2020, the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civial Rights (OCR), published amended federal regulations implementing Title IX, the federal statute addressing discrimination on the basis of sex in education programs and activities. The regulations became effecitve on August 14, 2020. The revised regulations include new provisions, applicable to both elementary and seconday schools, for addressing Title IX sexual harassment and how schools must respond to both reports and formal complaints of sexual harassment that occur in education programs and activities.
