Springdale Jr-Sr High School welcomed students from seven neighboring school districts to Marshall Auditorium on Thursday, October 29, and Friday, October 30, for the annual Eastern Area Special Programs Association (ESSPA) Creative Convention.

This year's theme, "Games," challenged students to put their imaginations to work through four rounds of creative competition involving writing and wordplay, artistic expression, building challenges and theatrical performances.

The convention is based on four key elements of creative thinking: Fluency, Flexibility, Originality and Elaboration. Students applied these skills as they worked through a variety of activities designed to encourage creative problem-solving and collaboration.

One of the highlights was the skit competition, which challenged students to imagine playing a sport on the moon. Interestingly, astronaut Alan Shepard actually hit a golf ball on the moon during the Apollo 14 mission in 1971!

Four Springdale students also had an opportunity to demonstrate their leadership skills throughout the two-day event. Balan Mundok, Nick Errico, Izzy Cain and Sage Mator served as emcees, content judges and scoring tabulators, helping the competition run smoothly.

The district was proud to welcome students from Plum, Penn Hills, Gateway, Greensburg Salem, Hempfield, McKeesport and Woodland Hills for two days of creativity, collaboration and learning.
Thank you to everyone who helped organize and support this year's Creative Convention, and congratulations to all the par
ticipating students!
