Dear Parents/Guardians:
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child back to Acmetonia Primary School for another school year. For those who are new to our school community, I would like to extend a special welcome. I hope you have had an enjoyable and relaxing summer.
As the end of summer vacation nears, parents gear up to get their children back into the learning mode. After two months off, many worry that their children have forgotten basic facts and have let their reading, writing, and arithmetic skills slide. They also wonder if their children are equipped to tackle the academic challenges of the next school year. That once collective sigh of relief as parents everywhere rejoice that they can now send their children back to school and once again return to a more "normal" schedule with a little more peace and quiet, no longer exists. The fact that your child is returning to the classroom should mean more work for Mom or Dad, too - but it's perhaps some of the greatest and most vital work you'll ever do. Some parents would like to believe that buying school supplies and new clothes will make everything run smoothly, but this is rarely the case. If you want your children to succeed in school, school must be important to you - not just philosophically, but tangibly. Taking ownership of your responsibility to help your child prosper in the classroom, should be one of our top goals as a parent. Your career, your entertainment - none are any more important than the time you spend every day spurring your children to learn and succeed in school. It's so exciting to watch your child learn and grow. As you work as a team with the school, the teachers, and your child, you'll give your child the best possible opportunity to develop to his or her full potential and succeed in school.
As part of your back-to-school packet, you will receive a new Elementary Parent & Student Guide, as well as a number of papers from your child’s teacher, the school office, and PTA. Please take the time to review this year’s Parent & Student Guide as well as the other important documents, so you and your child are informed about school and district information. Please complete all of the enclosed forms and return them to the school as soon as possible. This information is vital to our District.
I would also like to remind you that renovations to the Acmetonia building will begin in August and continue through the 2017-2018 school year.Although plans continue to be made to mitigate changes to the daily routine, some practices will need to be altered for the project. Emphasis will be placed on communication for the project, with web page postings, newsletters, and periodic letters to parents to provide necessary information. An area has been created on the District’s web site entitled “The Acme Project” that will provide details and information for parents.A newsletter for the project has also been developed, with the first issue to be distributed in September. Updates on the project may also be given at School Board and PTA meetings. If you should have questions at any time during the project, please contact the main office.
Finally, I invite all parents to take advantage of the Open House on September 14, 2017. Please remember that communication is the key factor in eliminating many school problems. You are encouraged to call the school when you have questions and/or concerns. I ask for your patience as we work to help solve your concerns and strive to accommodate our school community. Attend school events and/ or meetings, meet us, talk with us, join the PTA and volunteer your time and energy. Your involvement will show your child that you value education.
The start of the school year is a special time for communities to reaffirm a commitment to education. It’s my hope that each of our communities will seize this opportunity. I hope that together, you, your child, and our school staff can make this school year rewarding and fulfilling.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Sincerely,
Gregory J. Heavner
Principal
