The School Performance Profile (SPP) is based on a scale of 100 points. Each school in the District receives its own score that includes data relevant to the age and grade of the students in the building. Data included in the Profile can be accessed by parents to gauge the performance of individual schools and compare the trend line of year-to-year change. The Profile is also associated with the federal government’s school accountability requirements and, used as a component in teacher and principal evaluations.
The elementary profile is based on a number of indicators including academic performance scores in math, English, and science, along with promotion and student attendance rates. Included in the secondary Profile are academic scores on standardized tests and student’s academic growth. College readiness tests, industry standards-based assessments, progress in closing achievement gaps, and degree of student growth over time are factored into the score. Other measures included in the calculation are graduation, promotion and attendance rates as well as evidence of offering rigorous courses. Extra points beyond the 100 point scoring system may be awarded for students who have earned advanced scores on the state, industry, and Advanced Placement/International Baccalaureate exams.
As more academic standards and more rigorous assessments are added to the state tests, AVSD is meeting the challenge with robust initiatives to improve the educational program alignment to the Pa Common Core and PA State Standards. Improving math instruction at all levels continues to be a focus this school year and will include professional development for teachers and deeper evaluation of the taught and tested math curriculum and materials. School attendance at all grades will continue to be a priority focus.
Future Ready PA Index
In addition to the School Performance Profile, a new school profile will be introduced by the Pennsylvania Department of Education in the fall of 2018. The Future Ready PA Index promises to be a more comprehensive measure that values schools' efforts to help all students learn, grow, and succeed in the classroom and beyond. IN addition to state assessment scores, the Future Ready PA Index will include indicators that reflect how well students are prepared for on-track success, college and career readiness, success of the English Language Learner population, and how well the District addresses chronic absenteeism. in addition, a section will be dedicated to post-secondary transition.
