The School Performance Profile (SPP) is based on a scale of 100 points. Data included in the Profile can be accessed by parents
to gauge the performance of individual schools and compare the trend line of year-to-year change. The Profile is also associated with the federal
government’s school accountability requirements and, this year for the first time, a school’s score will be used as a component in teacher
and principal evaluations.
Included in the secondary Profile are academic scores based on a number of indicators, including standardized test scores and student’s academic
growth. College readiness tests, industry standards-based assessments, progress in closing achievement gaps, and degree of student growth over
time are factored into the score. Other measures included in the calculation are graduation, promotion and attendance rates as well as evidence
of offering rigorous courses. Extra points beyond the 100 point scoring system may be awarded for students who have earned advanced scores
on the state, industry, and Advanced Placement/International Baccalaureate exams.
The 2013-2014 scores reveal 72% of schools across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania have a score at or above 70. The Acmetonia Primary School Performance
Profile increased 7.5 points over the prior year to 80.5 and Colfax Upper Elementary School Performance Profile scores increased 6.2 points
to 87.2. The Springdale Junior Senior High School SPP score decreased by 5.5 points to 74.3 and remains within Pennsylvania’s 72% average.
As more academic standards and more rigorous assessments are added to the state tests, AVSD is meeting the challenge with robust initiatives to
improve the educational program alignment to the Pa Common Core and PA State Standards. Improving math instruction at all levels is a focus
this school year and will include professional development for teachers and deeper evaluation of the taught and tested math curriculum. School
attendance at all grades will continue to be a priority focus for the 2014-2015 school year as well.
